1.What is Activated Carbon Charcoal?

Activated coconut charcoal is a fine black powder made from coconut shells. The charcoal is activated by processing it at very high temperatures. The high temperatures change its internal structure by reducing the size of its pores and increasing its surface area. This results in a charcoal that is more porous than regular charcoal. Activated charcoal is not the same as charcoal used to light barbecue.

2. What is Activated Charcoal Used for?

Today, activated charcoal has a variety of applications such as water filtration, teeth whitening, skin treatment, odor control, air purifying, etc. It is used in medicines to reduce cholesterol level, improve kidney function and treat body odor related ailments. It is also considered to be a natural detoxifier. Activated carbon is also used to treat poisonings and overdoses following oral ingestion.

3. How does Activated Charcoal Eliminate Odor?

Activated Carbon is porous which means it has a large internal surface area. Impurities bond to pores of activated carbon via electrostatic attraction or chemisorption. Once the bonding sites are full, no additional impurities can be trapped. Due to its high degree of microporosity, one gram of activated carbon has a surface area of over 3,000 square meters (32,000 sq. ft) as determined by gas adsorption.

4. How effective is Coconut Activated Charcoal in eliminating odors in the fridge?

Coconut Activated Charcoal is very effective in odor removal from refrigerators and freezers. It maintains the food’s freshness while being perfectly safe to use inside the fridge. It is more effective than baking soda!

5. What is the difference between Coconut and Bamboo Activated Charcoals?

Bamboo charcoal comes from pieces of bamboo plants. Besides being non-toxic, Coconut Shell Charcoal is 3x more effective than bamboo charcoal in air purification. Coconut shell activated carbon not only has millions of bigger cavities, but also a very high density of microcavities and pores. These micro pores help absorb the tiny particles in the air which makes Coconut Shell a premium class of charcoal in air purification.

6. How to extend the life of a Coconut Activated Charcoal?

The life of Coconut Activated charcoal based products if used for odor control can be extended by placing it under direct sunlight for 1-2 hours after every 2-3 months.
